The data behind this page: 39 operator reviews of Gorgias · 64% very satisfied · 97% still using. Plus 30 reviews of nine other helpdesk and chat apps, used below as examples only, since none has enough reviews to rate. All collected from verified operators in the app store research network between January 2024 and July 2026.
Gorgias is the helpdesk Shopify operators in our network rarely leave. 38 of the 39 who reviewed it still use it, and 22 call it critical to their job. What sends them looking is the bill: 16 of the 39 raise cost, the pricing structure or paid add-ons.
This page covers why operators look elsewhere, what they say about the tools they compare Gorgias with, and what to check before you move. We have plenty of data on Gorgias and very little on the alternatives, so for those you’ll get listing facts and a few operators’ own words, not verdicts.
Quick answers
What is the best Gorgias alternative for Shopify? Our data can’t name one. We have 30 reviews spread across nine other helpdesk and chat apps, too few to rate any of them. The tools operators compare with Gorgias most often are Zendesk, Tidio, Shopify Inbox, Richpanel and Re:amaze.
Is there a free alternative to Gorgias? Shopify Inbox is free and made by Shopify, and its listing now describes an AI sales associate. Tidio has a free plan that covers live chat with up to 50 users. Gorgias’s own Starter plan is $10 a month for 50 tickets.
Why do operators look for Gorgias alternatives? Cost comes first: 16 of 39 reviewers raise price, the pricing structure or paid add-ons. Nine raise problems with the AI, and eight mention the interface, setup or the desktop and mobile apps.
Do operators leave Gorgias? Rarely. One of the 39 has stopped using it, after integration trouble and slow support. Two say they came to Gorgias from Zendesk.
How does Gorgias pricing compare with Zendesk? Gorgias charges by tickets: its App Store plans run from $10 a month for 50 tickets to $900 a month for 5,000. Zendesk’s listing prices its Suite plans per agent, from $55 to $150 per agent a month, billed annually.
Why do operators look for Gorgias alternatives?

Cost leads. 16 of the 39 Gorgias reviewers raise price, the pricing structure or paid add-ons. Some say the bill rises faster than the business:
“Penalized for growth because of their pricing structure.” (Customer Service, verified ASR review)
Others point to the add-on model, where rules, automation and the AI Agent cost extra. Six of the 16 name AI, automation or rules directly.
“Gorgias is expensive, and has only gotten more so.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
The listing shows how the bill is built. Plans are tiered by tickets: Starter is $10 a month for 50, Basic $60 for 300, Pro $360 for 2,000 and Advanced $900 for 5,000, with overage charged per extra ticket. An AI Agent add-on is available on each plan, and the listing doesn’t show its price. For the full cost picture, see is Gorgias worth it?.
The AI comes up beyond price. Nine reviewers raise problems with it, from answers that miss to features that need a lot of training, while a few others praise it.
“Tried their ai and it was very underwhelming and pricey” (Marketing, verified ASR review)
The rest is day-to-day use. Eight mention the interface, setup or the desktop and mobile apps, six mention integrations that break or don’t exist yet, and three want easier access to a person at Gorgias.
Do operators leave Gorgias?

Almost never. 38 of the 39 still use it, and 14 have used it for more than three years. Its reviewers keep returning to the same strengths: Shopify order data next to every ticket, every channel in one inbox, and macros that make new agents quick to train.
“This is THE customer service tool for Shopify store owners.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
The one operator who stopped using it found integrations hard to set up and support slow on complex issues. Two others say they moved to Gorgias from Zendesk, and a third compares the two on billing:
“It also does not charge by seat which gives more flexibility” (Customer Service, verified ASR review)
Gorgias alternatives at a glance
App | What it is | App Store | Listed pricing | Reviews in our network |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Gorgias (for reference) | Shopify helpdesk with an AI Agent add-on | 4.3 (700+ reviews) | $10/mo for 50 tickets up to $900/mo for 5,000 | 39 |
Zendesk | General-purpose support suite | 3.2 (95 reviews) | $55 to $150 per agent/mo, billed annually | 6 |
Tidio | Live chat with the Lyro AI chatbot | 4.8 (1,300+ reviews) | Free plan; paid from $29/mo; Lyro from $39/mo | 10 |
Shopify Inbox | Shopify’s own chat, now with an AI sales associate | 4.6 (5,800+ reviews) | Free | 4 |
Richpanel | Helpdesk built around AI agents | 4.9 (137 reviews) | From $89/mo per user; AI conversations from $0.20 | 2 |
Re:amaze | Helpdesk and live chat | 4.4 (181 reviews) | From $29/mo per staff user | 2 |
These are the starting prices listed on the Shopify App Store on October 28, 2026. Gorgias and Tidio price by volume, tickets or conversations, while Zendesk, Richpanel and Re:amaze charge per agent or user on most plans. Review counts show how thin our data is: apart from Gorgias, they’re too few to rate.
1. Zendesk: for a general-purpose support suite
Zendesk is the support platform many brands use before or after Gorgias. Its Shopify App Store listing shows a 3.2 rating from 95 reviews and Suite plans from $55 to $150 per agent a month, billed annually, with a 14-day trial.
We have six Zendesk reviews, too few to draw conclusions. One operator who left Zendesk liked a feature that a Gorgias reviewer says Gorgias lacks:
“Loved the block feature for IP addresses and phone numbers” (Customer Service, verified ASR review)
The same operator found per-person billing inflexible for a team that changes size through the year. A long-time Owner on Zendesk finds the interface simple and the Shopify integration strong. For a head-to-head, see our Gorgias vs Zendesk comparison.
2. Tidio: for live chat with an AI chatbot
Tidio is a live chat tool with an AI chatbot called Lyro. The listing shows a 4.8 rating from more than 1,300 reviews, a free plan covering live chat with 50 users, Customer Service and Flows plans at $29 a month, and the Lyro AI Chatbot plan from $39 a month for up to 200 Lyro conversations.
We have 10 Tidio reviews, not enough to rate it. They range from owners who are happy with the chat and the AI to owners who found setup hard work. Two examples:
“Lyro the AI Chatbot has exceeded my expectations.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
Another owner moved on because they needed one customer service hub across web chat, email and social media, not chat alone. That’s the line to check if you’d be replacing Gorgias’s full inbox with Tidio.
3. Shopify Inbox: for free chat inside Shopify
Shopify Inbox is Shopify’s own free chat app. Its listing shows a 4.6 rating from more than 5,800 reviews and describes an AI sales associate that answers shopper questions using your catalog, policies and orders.
Our four reviews all date from 2024, before the listing’s current AI features, so read them as a snapshot of the older app. One owner liked the price, and another wanted far more from it:
“This product is very bare bones.” (E-commerce Manager, verified ASR review)
That reviewer wanted order lookups, refunds and returns handled inside the chat. The owner who stopped using it had to switch between two stores rather than handle both at once.
4. Richpanel: for a helpdesk built around AI agents
Richpanel positions itself on AI agents that resolve tickets end to end. The listing shows a 4.9 rating from 137 reviews. PRO is $89 a month plus $89 per additional user, PRO MAX is $119, and AI conversations start at $0.20 each, with a 14-day trial.
We have two Richpanel reviews, so treat these as two people’s experiences. One owner likes handling every channel in one place:
“I also love the ability to perform shopify actions within the app.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
The same owner wants the AI to sound more on-brand. The other reviewer hit errors integrating Office 365 and slow replies from support. If your team runs on Microsoft 365 email, test that connection during any trial: the one Gorgias reviewer who left describes the same Office 365 trouble.
5. Re:amaze: for a helpdesk priced per staff user
Re:amaze is a helpdesk and live chat app. The listing shows a 4.4 rating from 181 reviews. Basic is $29 a month per staff user, Pro $49 and Plus $69, and a Starter plan is $59 a month for 500 responded conversations, all with 14-day trials. Pro adds multi-store, SMS and VOIP.
Our two reviews show two different uses. One e-commerce manager runs all channels through it:
“consolidates emails, live chat, social media messages, and even SMS into one place” (E-commerce Manager, verified ASR review)
The other team still handles most customer contact by email and uses Re:amaze mainly for chat.
What about Help Scout, Intercom, Kustomer and Rep AI?
We have one review each of Help Scout, Intercom and Kustomer. That’s anecdote, not data, but each shows what an operator was looking for. The Help Scout owner picked it for simplicity and price:
“a price that’s so reasonable when others in the space are charging criminal pricing” (Owner, verified ASR review)
The Intercom reviewer gets more from its knowledge base than its chat, and the Kustomer reviewer values easy ticket assignment but wants more flexible integrations.
Rep AI is a sales chat app rather than a helpdesk. It comes up because one Gorgias reviewer finds Gorgias’s AI shopping assistant “not as good as apps that specialize in that technology”. Rep AI’s three reviewers like the automated conversations, and one says it needs a lot of fine-tuning. For the wider field, see our best live chat and helpdesk apps guide.
Before you switch, what do operators say about moving off Gorgias?

A helpdesk move means rebuilding macros, rules, views and integrations, so check what you’d give up. Four things operators bring up:
Billing model. Gorgias bills by tickets, while most alternatives above bill per agent or user. Price your ticket volume and your team size both ways, including part-time and seasonal staff.
Integrations. Integrations are what Gorgias reviewers praise most, from Shopify itself to apps such as Recharge and Rebuy. List the integrations your agents open every day and confirm each one works in the new tool.
Sales tools. Some operators use Gorgias to sell, not only to support. One says its upsell widgets “paid for our entire Gorgias subscription in multiples”. If you rely on that, build it into the comparison.
More than one store. One Gorgias reviewer singles out how it handles several brands, while one Zendesk reviewer couldn’t run multibrand and one Shopify Inbox user had to switch between stores. Test multi-store support if you run more than one.
If the problem is how Gorgias is set up rather than Gorgias itself, shopexperts lists Gorgias experts who tune rules, macros and the AI Agent.
Which Gorgias alternative fits your reason for leaving?
If your reason is | Options covered above | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
The bill grows with ticket volume | Re:amaze, Richpanel or Zendesk, priced per user | Your agent count, since per-user plans grow with your team |
You only need live chat | Tidio, Shopify Inbox | Whether email and social messages are covered too |
You want a free option | Shopify Inbox | Whether chat alone covers your support volume |
You want a full support suite | Zendesk | Annual per-agent billing and Shopify integration depth |
You want stronger AI | Richpanel, Tidio’s Lyro, or Rep AI for sales chat | AI pricing per conversation or plan, and training time |
This is the third guide in our alternatives series, after Klaviyo alternatives and Yotpo alternatives. For every other category, the Shopify App Reviews hub has first-hand ratings from the same network.

Thinking about changing helpdesks? Support software teams want to hear why.
Helpdesk and AI support companies pay operators $50 to $500 per call to see how a real support inbox runs. Your ticket volume, your tools and your frustrations are the research.
Gorgias figures and all quotes come from verified operator reviews in the app store research network, collected January 2024 to July 2026. Reviews of other apps are quoted as individual examples, not ratings.
App Store ratings, review counts and plan prices were taken from each app’s Shopify App Store listing on October 28, 2026. Plans change often, so confirm pricing for your ticket volume and team size. Last reviewed: October 28, 2026.
