The data behind this page: 209 operator reviews of Klaviyo · 73% very satisfied · 95% still using. Plus 66 reviews of the five alternatives below. Reviews collected January 2024 to July 2026 from verified operators in the app store research network.
Klaviyo is the most-reviewed app in our network, and price is what its operators complain about most. 79 of 209 reviewers (38%) name cost, billing or price increases as what disappoints them. Yet 76 of those 79 still use it.
So this isn’t a list of apps that beat Klaviyo. It’s what operators told us about why they look elsewhere, where the few who left went, and how the usual alternatives rate with the operators who run them.
Quick answers
What is the best Klaviyo alternative for Shopify? In our network, Omnisend is the alternative operators most often describe as Klaviyo-like for less money. Four of its 18 reviewers compare it favorably with Klaviyo on price or value, and 17 of the 18 still use it.
Is there a free Klaviyo alternative? Yes. Shopify Messaging, Shopify’s own app (formerly Shopify Email), sends 10,000 emails a month free, then charges $1 per 1,000. Operators like the simplicity and say automation and segmentation are limited. Omnisend and Mailchimp also have free plans for small lists.
Do operators who complain about Klaviyo’s price leave? Rarely. Of the 79 operators who complain about price, 76 still use Klaviyo. Only 10 of all 209 reviewers have stopped using it.
What do operators switch to for SMS? Attentive or Postscript. One owner moved to Attentive to get email and SMS under one roof. Another keeps Klaviyo for email and runs SMS on Postscript because its billing is clearer.
Should I fix my Klaviyo bill before switching? Operators point to two habits: removing inactive profiles every month, and checking your plan after high-volume months. Klaviyo bills by active profiles, so both change what you pay.
Why do operators look for Klaviyo alternatives?

We grouped what each of the 209 reviewers said disappointed them. Many named more than one thing.
What disappoints Klaviyo operators | Reviews | Share |
|---|---|---|
Price, billing or price increases | 79 | 38% |
Email design, templates and the editor | 42 | 20% |
Complexity and the learning curve | 34 | 16% |
SMS features or SMS cost | 23 | 11% |
Reporting and attribution | 22 | 11% |
Speed and glitches | 14 | 7% |
Deliverability | 11 | 5% |
Multiple stores, currencies or countries | 9 | 4% |
Support | 9 | 4% |
Nothing | 17 | 8% |
Price leads by a wide margin. Of the 79 price complaints, 28 tie it to how the bill grows with the list or with active profiles. Twelve call the billing confusing or unpredictable, and nine point to price rises since they signed up.
“Pricing is almost criminal for the offer at this point” (Owner, verified ASR review)
“the monthly price went up by more than 50%” (Owner, verified ASR review)
The other complaints matter too. One in five operators wants a better email editor or more templates. One in six finds Klaviyo hard to learn, and several mention onboarding new team members.
Do operators who complain about Klaviyo leave?

Mostly, no. 96% of the operators who complain about price still use Klaviyo. They’re less happy than the rest (67% very satisfied, against 77% for everyone else), but they stay.
They stay for the same reasons Klaviyo gets praised. When operators describe what exceeded expectations, flows and automation come up in 82 reviews, segmentation in 67, and the Shopify integration and data sync in 58.
“A bit pricey, but product is solid and alternatives have been so so” (Owner, verified ASR review)
“As a small business I need Klaviyo. It’s the industry standard.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
Our Shopify App Satisfaction Report 2026 found the same habit across every category: most unhappy operators still had the app installed.
Why the 10 who left stopped
Only 10 of the 209 reviewers no longer use Klaviyo. Their reasons:
Price or plan structure (3): volume-based tiers that rose in busy months, costs across email and SMS, or simply the price for what it does.
SMS and email in one place (1): moved to Attentive.
No human support or strategy (1): moved to Listrak.
Attribution, speed and Shopify’s own email app (1): said Klaviyo couldn’t keep pace with Shopify’s built-in email.
Ease of use (1), deliverability and list cleaning (1), a trial only (1), and one who left with no complaint at all.
Two named where they went: Attentive and Listrak. A third compared Klaviyo unfavorably with Shopify’s own email app. None of them named Mailchimp.

Shopify Messaging and Postscript have small samples in our network, so read their ratings as directional.
1. Omnisend: if price is the reason
Omnisend is the alternative operators compare with Klaviyo most directly. Four of its 18 reviewers say it does the same core job for less: similar segmentation, email and SMS in one app, a lower bill. 17 of the 18 still use it.
The catch is the pricing model. Omnisend also charges by contacts, so it climbs as the list grows, and six of its 18 reviewers mention cost as a concern. For a feature-by-feature view, our Klaviyo vs Omnisend vs Mailchimp comparison covers all three.
ASR rating: 56% very satisfied · 18 reviews · 94% still using
What operators love: a lower bill than Klaviyo for similar segmentation; easy campaigns and setup; helpful support; email, SMS and push in one place. Common concerns: priced by list size, so it still grows; fewer analytics and integrations than Klaviyo; a learning curve for some; slow support for two.
“Omnisend has exceeded expectations by giving us far better value than Klaviyo.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
On the App Store it holds a 4.7 rating from 3,197 reviews. The free plan covers 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, Standard starts at $16 for up to 500 contacts, and Pro starts at $59 for up to 2,500 contacts. If you need help moving over, shopexperts lists Omnisend experts.
2. Mailchimp: if you want simple and familiar
Mailchimp is the name many operators already know, and its reviewers are mostly long-term users: 11 of 13 have run it for more than three years. They value the drag-and-drop builder, templates and reliable sending.
None of the Klaviyo leavers in our data moved to Mailchimp, and one Omnisend reviewer moved away from it. The recurring complaint is Shopify depth: one owner finds it better to run email automations in Shopify itself. For the wider field of email apps, see our best Shopify email marketing apps guide.
ASR rating: 62% very satisfied · 13 reviews · 92% still using
What operators love: ease of use; drag-and-drop emails and templates; dependable sending. Common concerns: a shallower Shopify integration; doubts about reporting accuracy; slow email-only support; advanced features behind higher plans.
“Simple to use. Mailchimp is great for the first few years of start up.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
The App Store listing shows a 4.8 rating from 1,441 reviews, a free plan, and paid plans starting at $13 (Essentials), $20 (Standard) and $350 (Premium), priced by contacts.
3. Shopify Messaging: if you only need basic email
Shopify’s own email app, which our reviewers knew as Shopify Email, now appears on the App Store as Shopify Messaging and covers email and SMS. Stores get 10,000 emails a month free, then pay $1 per 1,000 up to 300,000. Abandoned checkout emails are always free.
Operators like how simple it is and that it uses Shopify customer data directly. Their concerns repeat: limited automation and segmentation, and basic design. On the Klaviyo side, one operator who left said Klaviyo couldn’t keep pace with it, and another owner sees higher open rates on Shopify’s emails than on Klaviyo’s.
ASR rating: 50% very satisfied · 6 reviews · 83% still using (small sample)
What operators love: simple sending from the Shopify admin; Shopify customer data built in; emailing a customer straight from an order. Common concerns: few automations and segments; a basic choice of fonts and layouts; one owner says the emails look generic.
“The simplicity and speed really exceed expectations for a built-in solution.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
4. Attentive: if SMS is the reason
23 Klaviyo reviewers raise SMS issues, and three of them mention Attentive, including the owner who left Klaviyo to run email and SMS together on Attentive.
Attentive’s reviewers praise its customer success team and SMS results. They’re far less happy about cost: per-send fees, carrier charges, MMS credits and long-term contracts. Four of its 22 reviewers no longer use it. Our Klaviyo vs Attentive vs Postscript comparison goes deeper on SMS.
ASR rating: 50% very satisfied · 22 reviews · 82% still using
What operators love: hands-on customer success; strong SMS list growth through its sign-up units; email added to the same platform. Common concerns: pricing made of many line items; contracts; SMS returns thinning as more brands text; generous attribution.
“SMS is phenomenal and they did a great job adding in their email platform.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
The App Store listing shows a 4.7 rating from 110+ reviews and no public price: free to install, a minimum 30-day free trial, then month-to-month or long-term agreements. shopexperts lists Attentive experts for setup.
5. Postscript: if you want better SMS but keep Klaviyo
Some operators don’t leave Klaviyo at all. They move only SMS. One Klaviyo owner runs SMS on Postscript because the billing is clear, and one Postscript reviewer says it converts better than Klaviyo SMS while questioning the cost.
All 7 Postscript reviewers still use it. Two say results dipped over time, and one finds the interface behind Attentive’s. To compare more SMS tools, see our best SMS marketing apps for Shopify.
ASR rating: 57% very satisfied · 7 reviews · 100% still using (small sample)
What operators love: quick to send, even from a phone; a hands-on customer success manager; pricing one reviewer calls aggressive. Common concerns: cost; channel results softening over time; overstated reporting; a dated interface for one owner.
“ROI is still very good given their aggressive pricing.” (Marketing, verified ASR review)
On the App Store it holds a 4.7 rating from 1,200+ reviews. Starter is a $49 monthly minimum spend at $0.009 per SMS plus carrier fees, Growth is $100 a month and Professional $500 a month.
What about Listrak, Sendlane and the rest?
Listrak came up once: an e-commerce manager moved there when reaching a human for support or strategy became impossible on Klaviyo. We don’t have enough Listrak reviews to rate it yet.
Sendlane has three reviews, and two point to pricing as the draw:
“The main value prop is pricing. Klaviyo is a superior product.” (Owner, verified ASR review)
Before you switch, what do operators say about the Klaviyo bill?

Klaviyo bills by active profiles, so a list full of people who never open costs money every month. Operators who stayed point to list hygiene as the lever.
“it is important that you control this aspect every month” (Owner, verified ASR review)
Another says Klaviyo doesn’t “help you really groom your subscriber base.” One owner who left found that plan tiers rose automatically in busy months but had to be lowered by hand afterwards, so check your plan after every peak.
Switching has its own cost: rebuilding flows, templates and forms, and moving consent records. If the problem is your setup rather than the platform, shopexperts lists Klaviyo experts who audit accounts and clean up lists.
Which Klaviyo alternative fits your reason for leaving?
If your reason is | Operators in our network point to | What they warn about |
|---|---|---|
The bill grows with your list | Omnisend (Sendlane, on a small sample) | Both also price by contacts |
Klaviyo feels too complex | Shopify Messaging for basics, Mailchimp for a familiar builder | Less Shopify data and automation |
You only send basic emails | Shopify Messaging | Few automations and segments |
SMS results or SMS billing | Postscript next to Klaviyo email, or Attentive | Per-message costs and contracts |
Email and SMS in one place with hands-on help | Attentive | No public pricing; long-term agreements |
Reaching a human for support or strategy | Listrak (one operator) | Not enough reviews to rate yet |

Thinking about leaving Klaviyo? App teams want to hear why.
Shopify app teams pay operators $50 to $500 per call to understand what made you pick, keep, or drop a platform. Switching stories are what they research.
Operator ratings and quotes are from verified reviews collected inside the app store research network, January 2024 to July 2026. Small samples are flagged and should be read as directional.
