AI SUMMARY

Senior UX Designer, Ecommerce at Carpe (fast-growing US deodorant brand with a team of about 30), on-site in downtown Durham, NC. The posting matches Carpe's UI/UX Developer role: you design landing pages, funnels and on-site experiences phone first, ship them yourself on the Shopify storefront with AI tools such as Cursor or Claude Code, and run the testing programme from hypothesis to shipping the winner. You also watch session recordings to decide what to design next, keep the design system consistent and catch broken states and slow loads before customers do. Fit if you have: a web or product design portfolio with clear reasoning, Figma, a feel for purchase decisions, and willingness to learn HTML, CSS and Liquid (shipped code, A/B tests and Shopify themes stand out). Salary not stated. Benefits: health, vision and dental insurance, flexible PTO. Apply by email only, with a personal paragraph not written by AI, a resume and one page you built with the number it moved.

To Apply

Email jess@mycarpe.com with three things: a paragraph in your own words, not written by AI, on why you are the right person for this; a PDF of your resume; and a link to your portfolio. Point us to one page you designed and built yourself, and tell us the number it moved. Email is the only way to apply.

About Carpe

Carpe is the fastest growing deodorant brand in the US. Our team is composed of about 30 insanely smart people working together in person in downtown Durham, NC. Our office is rather open with many private niches, and our energy level is HIGH.

About the Role

Our website is where people decide whether they believe us. You are going to make it better every single week.

You are a designer first. You understand why someone scrolls past one page and buys from the next, and you can put that understanding into a layout, a headline, a button. Most of our traffic is on a phone, so that is where you start.

You will also get your designs into the browser yourself. You do not need to be a developer. You do need to be willing to learn enough HTML, CSS and Liquid to ship your own work, and you need to be excited about using AI tools to get there. Cursor, Claude Code, whatever gets a mockup live fastest. We will teach you the stack. We cannot teach you taste or curiosity.

Everything you ship gets measured. You will learn what conversion rate optimization actually means in practice: forming a hypothesis, building the test, reading the result, and shipping the winner. If you already know CRO, great. If you don’t yet but want to be exceptional at it, this is the place to learn.

What You Will Do

Design landing pages, funnels and on-site experiences that make more people buy

Build and ship your own designs on our Shopify storefront, with AI tools and our help, and get better at it every month

Run the testing program with us. Frame the test, build it, launch it, read it, ship the winner

Watch session recordings and let what people actually do decide what you design next

Make every page pixel clean on every screen size, phone first

Keep the design system tight so the site stays consistent as it grows

Catch your own broken states, slow loads and crooked copy before a customer does

What We Are Looking For

You have a portfolio of web or product design work, and you can explain the thinking behind it

You have taste, and you can explain why something works

You understand what drives a purchase decision, or you are hungry to learn

You are comfortable in Figma and want to be comfortable in the browser

You have used AI tools to build something, or you can’t wait to

You design for the phone first and it shows

You want to own the result, not just the design

You take input well and still make the call

You want to be exceptional at this, not just good at it

What Makes You Stand Out

You have shipped your own designs in HTML and CSS, even if they were rough

You have run or contributed to A/B tests and can tell us what you learned

You come from a DTC brand or a team that lives and dies by conversion

You have worked in Shopify themes before

You care about page speed and accessibility without being asked

Why This Role

This is the surface where design meets revenue. Every customer we have will touch what you build. You get to ship fast, test everything, and watch the number move. Not many designers get a scoreboard. You will.

What You Will Get

Health, vision and dental

Flexible PTO

A front row seat to the growth of one of the most disruptive brands in body care

Questions you can expect in the interview

Drawn from this posting. None of them repeat on another job.

1.As the senior designer, you would keep the design system tight so the site stays consistent as it grows. Tell us how you have kept a growing set of pages consistent without slowing the team down.
2.Carpe's site is where people decide whether they believe the brand. What design choices make a body-care product page more believable?
3.You would watch session recordings to decide what to design next. How do you turn a handful of recordings into a design decision without overreacting to one user?
4.The role expects you to catch broken states, slow loads and crooked copy before customers do. What does your own pre-release check look like?
5.Most traffic is on a phone. Tell us about a design you changed after seeing how it actually performed on mobile.
