We're working with an ambitious, specialist Shopify eCommerce agency that's looking for an exceptional Lead / Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join its growing technology team.

This isn't your typical Shopify development role!

Our agency partner specialises in complex, large-scale eCommerce projects that push Shopify far beyond its standard capabilities. Think product catalogues exceeding 8 million SKUs, intricate integrations, bespoke functionality and highly personalised customer experiences.

They're looking for someone who thrives on solving difficult technical challenges, enjoys building scalable solutions and wants to have a genuine influence on how an ambitious agency approaches software engineering.

You'll work directly with the Head of Technology, taking ownership of technical solutions, leading development across challenging projects and helping shape the agency's engineering processes and best practices.

IMPORTANT: This is a hands-on technical leadership role. We're looking for someone who can architect solutions, write exceptional code and confidently guide others, rather than simply manage a development team.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

💻 Full Stack Development & Technical Architecture

✅ Design, develop and deliver complex, scalable Shopify solutions for ambitious eCommerce brands.

✅ Build bespoke functionality, integrations and applications that extend Shopify beyond its standard capabilities.

✅ Take ownership of technical architecture, ensuring solutions are reliable, maintainable and commercially effective.

✅ Translate complex client requirements into clear technical specifications, development plans and documentation.

✅ Write high-quality, efficient code using JavaScript, Node.js and modern development technologies.

✅ Identify technical challenges early and develop practical, innovative solutions.

🧠 Technical Leadership & Innovation

✅ Provide technical leadership across multiple projects, helping guide development teams and maintain exceptional engineering standards.

✅ Help define and improve the agency's development processes, workflows and best practices.

✅ Champion new technologies, tools and approaches that improve efficiency and quality.

✅ Support and mentor other developers, sharing knowledge and encouraging continuous improvement.

✅ Take an active role in technical decision-making and contribute to the future direction of the agency's technology offering.

🤝 Collaboration & Project Delivery

✅ Work closely with Project Management, Design, Data and wider development teams to deliver outstanding digital experiences.

✅ Support project scoping, sprint planning, technical estimation and resource management.

✅ Communicate technical challenges, project risks and budget implications clearly to stakeholders.

✅ Collaborate with Designers to ensure creative ideas can be delivered effectively within Shopify's technical capabilities.

✅ Ensure technical solutions support excellent user experiences and measurable commercial outcomes.

🌟 What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer with strong Shopify expertise who enjoys taking ownership and solving genuinely challenging problems.

Essential Skills & Experience

✅ Significant experience developing complex Shopify solutions, including custom functionality and integrations.

✅5+ years' JavaScript experience, with excellent knowledge of the wider JavaScript ecosystem.

✅ Strong hands-on expertise in Node.js and Vanilla JavaScript (ES6+).

✅ Experience working with serverless technologies, including building and deploying cloud functions.

✅ A proven ability to architect and develop scalable, reliable and maintainable software.

✅ Experience translating complex requirements into practical technical solutions.

✅ Strong understanding of eCommerce platforms, customer journeys and commercial objectives.

✅ Excellent communication skills and confidence working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

✅ Experience providing technical guidance or leadership across development projects.

Nice to Have

✅ Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.

✅ Knowledge of AI development tools and how to use them effectively.

✅ Experience with enterprise CMS platforms such as Drupal or Umbraco.

✅ Understanding of Agile development, user stories and sprint planning.

✅ Experience with automated testing, TDD or BDD.
