Is Back in Stock worth it?

One of the clearest ROI cases on our panel — merchants describe it paying for itself many times over, in a barebones package.

Across 7 verified merchants and agency operators, 79% are satisfied with Back in Stock. The return is unusually concrete: one merchant says it pays for itself ten times over monthly, another reports some brands seeing 20% of revenue from restock alerts. The mechanism is simple — capture demand on sold-out products, notify automatically when stock returns — and batching notifications by received stock quantity prevents overselling. A secondary benefit reviewers value is the signal it provides on what customers want you to remake. The criticisms are about polish rather than function. Several describe it as a barebones system with a dated interface, and want more freedom to style the sign-up button to match the brand. Reporting gives high-level numbers without daily signup trends or demand spikes, one merchant hit trigger failures after the app changed hands, and another missed sending opportunities because there was no warning that a plan upgrade was required. There's no account manager, only email support. The verdict: one of the highest-return apps in our data, and rough enough around the edges that you'll notice. Most merchants decide that trade is easy.

How much does Back in Stock cost?

Back in Stock has a free plan, with paid tiers at $19, $29 and $49/month. One operational warning from our panel: at least one merchant missed sending opportunities because the app didn't flag that a plan upgrade was needed — worth monitoring your subscriber volume against your tier rather than assuming you'll be notified.

What merchants say about this app

AI SUMMARY

Merchants credit Back in Stock with capturing demand for sold-out products and recovering meaningful revenue; several say it pays for itself many times over, with some seeing 20% of revenue from it. Batch restock notifications and easy setup are highlights. Complaints include limited styling of the sign-up button, a fairly basic UI, weaker reporting breakdowns, and, more recently, some trigger failures and missed sends after a change in ownership, plus a wish for AI-based suggestions.

What exceeded expectations

The positive aspects of back in stock restock alerts is that if offers very engaged users to stay loyal and wait for our restocks. This works well for products that only WE carry. But for items that are available “everywhere” customers will just jump ship and find where it’s available NOW.

What was disappointing

For $20 a month Im not sure back in stock restock alerts is worth it. I like how even if not used we are offering to remind folks when we restock this or that, but is it enough to pay $240 a year?

What exceeded expectations

The app is easy to implement and does a good job capturing demand for sold out products. It helps recover potential lost revenue by notifying customers automatically once items are restocked. I also appreciate how simple it is for customers to sign up and how it integrates directly with product pages without disrupting the shopping experience.

What was disappointing

The activity report email provides high level numbers, but it doesn’t break down new signups by specific dates in a clear, chronological way. There isn’t an easy way to see daily signup trends or isolate demand spikes over time. Instead, the list continues to accumulate without a structured date based breakdown, which makes it harder to analyze performance around specific drops or restocks. Adding clearer date segmentation and daily reporting in the email summary would make the insights much more actionable.

This app pays for itself ten times over every month. A lot of my customers use it. Seeing what people want us to remake is very helpful to me when I am making decisions on next production projects.

What was disappointing

I would like to have an account manager I can talk too. They are responsive by email but i really like to be able to talk to someone regarding our account every so often.
