Shopify App Store News – June 2026: Mantle Shuts Down & Scripts Sunset

June was a lot. Shopify shipped its biggest release of the year. A long-scheduled deprecation finally hit. And the app-building community woke up on June 16 to find out one of its most-used tools is just gone.
Here's what actually matters, in order.
Shopify Scripts shut off June 30
If you're still on it, you're not "migrating soon," you're down
Scripts stopped executing entirely on June 30. Editing and publishing were already dead back on April 15, so this was the last shoe, not a surprise. If you ran checkout customization through Scripts and haven't moved to Functions or a public app, that logic isn't paused. It's off.
Two audiences, one deadline. Merchants: go check your checkout actually works, don't assume the migration you scheduled six weeks ago actually shipped. Plans have a way of quietly not happening.
App teams: Shopify's calling Functions a straightforward upgrade, faster execution, more parity with what Scripts used to do. Fine. But if you build checkout or discount apps, Functions is now the only game in town, and every merchant still stuck on dead Scripts is a warm lead. Say that in your positioning. Don't be shy about it.
Mantle is shutting down, and it's not just a billing switch
Mantle announced on June 16 it's completely winding down. Not sold, not folded into another product. Shut down, data eventually deleted. Non-billing customers lose access August 14. Mantle Billing customers get until September 30.
I'll be honest, this one stings a bit personally. I was mid-design on an integration between Mantle and app store research, using their event triggers (install, upgrade, usage milestones) to auto-schedule retention and upsell calls between app teams and their own customers. That project's dead now too. Good idea, wrong foundation.
Here's why this shutdown is bigger than "find a new billing tool." Mantle wasn't just billing. Teams ran revenue tracking, churn analytics, affiliate programs, support, and lifecycle email through it. Lose it in one announcement and you're rebuilding four or five workflows at once, not swapping one vendor.
If you're shopping for a replacement, don't just grab whatever's loudest on Twitter this week. Talk to a few teams who already switched tools for reasons like this. That's literally what Competitive Research & Switching Analysis is for, and it beats guessing.
Want the likely trigger? Shopify shipped Shopify App Pricing on May 12, replacing Managed Pricing as the default. Native usage-based billing, an Active Subscription API, a Historical API, the whole event log straight from the platform. That's exactly the ground Mantle's billing product stood on. Put the two events side by side and the real story isn't "Mantle shut down." It's Shopify quietly eating another layer of the app-tooling stack. Watch for who's next.
If you used Mantle for anything, export your data now, not in August. And if you're on Mantle Billing, don't assume Shopify App Pricing is a clean swap, it may not support Mantle's Flex Billing model. If you're rethinking your billing model anyway because of this, treat it as a real pricing and packaging call, not a rushed technical migration.

Merchants can now see exactly what your app is touching
Shopify keeps tightening data-access transparency. On June 29 it shipped a new app pixel activity log, a full history of data-access changes per pixel. Builds on the permission tracking from earlier this year.
For app teams, the takeaway isn't subtle: merchants can now audit your scopes in detail. Asking for broad access without a clear reason used to be lazy. Now it's visible and lazy. For merchants, it's worth ten minutes a month to open that log and prune whatever's quietly grabbing more than it needs.
Spring '26 Edition landed with 150+ updates
Went live June 17. Themes: more AI and Sidekick baked into admin, expanded Markets and Catalog, upgraded analytics with new chart types. This is the kind of release that reshapes what's actually buildable on the platform. If you develop apps, go read it properly, don't skim the press release.
The smaller stuff that still matters
B2B discounts are now on by default for new and eligible existing B2B stores; no more emailing Support to flip the switch. The Marketing tab got renamed to the Growth tab, a small change, annoying if your help docs or support macros still say the old name.
Purchase orders now create transfers, which helps with partial deliveries and multi-location routing. And ahead of the EU's July 1 rule, Shopify added two ways to handle the new €3 customs duty on qualifying low-value imports at checkout.
One for subscription merchants specifically: effective June 22, the default disclosure shown for subscription products at checkout changed. If you run a subscription app, go check if your checkout still matches it.
What it means for your store
Three things, no more excuses on any of them. If you were on Scripts, go confirm the replacement is actually live, today, not "should be." If you sell B2B, check whether default discounts just turned on and whether you actually want that. And if any app you use touches Mantle, even indirectly through billing or support, find out now. August 14 is closer than it feels.

What it means if you build apps
This was a builder's month, and not a gentle one. Scripts is dead, Functions is mandatory for checkout and discount logic now, lead with that if you compete there.
Mantle is the sharper opportunity. If you compete on billing or analytics, there's a real window right now to pick up app teams who just lost their tool. Move on it before someone else does.

Tightening data-access transparency means least-privilege scopes are a trust feature now, not just good hygiene, merchants can see what you're doing. Here's what actually happened on the platform last month, not the polished version.
A few themes stood out. AI visibility and AI-agent tools were the single biggest wave, close to one in five projects, teams building AI analytics, GEO and AI-search visibility tools, or AI-powered support and shopping assistants, all trying to prove real demand before building further. Everyone's chasing the same anxiety right now: will an AI even find my store.
Subscription and recurring-revenue apps kept testing too, timely, given everything above. Retention, support, and CX ops formed another solid cluster. And underneath all that, a steady stream of unglamorous, practical questions: wholesale buyer onboarding, FDA and accessibility compliance, inventory forecasting. Not flashy. But these are the questions that actually keep operators up at night, which is exactly why app teams keep paying to ask them.
