About Pit Viper

Pit Viper is an eyewear company based in South Salt Lake, Utah that designs, develops, and manufactures sports performance equipment and lifestyle pieces. Our mission is to bring the party to performance eyewear and offer durable, functional, and expressive products at an exceptional value—while making you laugh. Our vision is to build the most fun brand the world has ever known. You're welcome.

Position Overview

The E-Commerce Tech Lead is responsible for managing, quality-controlling, and supporting the development work on Pit Viper's Shopify storefronts across the U.S., Canada, and Australia. This is a technical leadership role. The Tech Lead scopes, tasks, and reviews the work of external front-end and back-end developers, with the DTC storefront front-end as the primary priority. They are technically proficient and fluent in the language of development, with the skills to step in on fixes when needed, but the majority of their time is spent planning, writing requirements, managing developer workload, and ensuring work ships correctly and on time.

This person partners closely with Marketing, Merchandising, Sales, and Operations teams to support launches, troubleshoot issues, manage integrations, and maintain an exceptional online shopping experience. They work closely with Pit Viper's web design and development agency and with Celigo/NetSuite integration partners, owning day-to-day communication, troubleshooting, and ensuring roadmap tasks are executed correctly.

Key Responsibilities

Development Management & Technical Leadership

  • Own the development backlog for the DTC and B2B storefronts: translate business and e-comm priorities into scoped, sequenced technical work.

  • Manage and oversee external and contract developers (front-end and back-end), assigning tasks, setting deadlines, and tracking progress against budget and timeline.

  • Review code and deliverables in GitHub for quality, accuracy, and alignment with requirements before anything is merged or deployed.

  • Unblock developers by answering technical questions, clarifying requirements, and making implementation decisions.

  • Step in on urgent fixes or small changes when it is faster than tasking them out.

Shopify Front-End Development & Site Maintenance

  • Manage front-end projects, maintenance, bug fixes, and improvements across the U.S., Canada, and Australia storefronts, with the DTC storefront as the primary priority.

  • Oversee updates to site layouts, templates, banners, product pages, and interactive elements built in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Liquid, and Shopify theme tools.

  • Ensure visual inconsistencies, spacing and display issues, and theme-related bugs are identified, tasked, and resolved.

Integration Oversight (Celigo + NetSuite)

  • Oversee the back-end developer responsible for Celigo flows between Shopify, NetSuite, and other connected systems, including scoping, tasking, and reviewing their work.

  • Ensure sync errors, mapping issues, and failed flows are triaged, prioritized, and resolved.

  • Collaborate with Celigo and NetSuite partner agencies to address integration improvements or escalations.

  • Work with internal Operations, Finance, and Sales teams to support order flow, inventory sync, and product data health.

Agency & Vendor Coordination

  • Manage communication with Pit Viper's web design and development agency and Celigo/NetSuite integration partners.

  • Write clear technical requirements, briefs, and tickets for fixes, enhancements, and roadmap projects, with enough detail that agencies and contract developers can execute without back-and-forth.

  • Review agency output for quality and accuracy before implementation.

  • Ensure tasks are completed on schedule and aligned with Pit Viper's priorities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Merchandising Manager, providing the technical support (sections, templates, metafields, and site functionality) needed to execute merchandising plans. Product setup and merchandising tasks themselves are owned by Merchandising.

  • Support Marketing with product drops, campaign launches, landing pages, and promotional updates.

  • Support Sales team with updates to the B2B storefront.

  • Partner with Customer Service on bug identification, checkout issues, or customer-impacting problems.

Testing, QA & Performance Monitoring

  • Conduct regular site QA to identify bugs, broken elements, or functional issues.

  • Test new features, updates, and products before they go live, and ensure developer work passes QA before release.

  • Monitor site performance and escalate major issues to agencies when needed.

  • Maintain consistent documentation of changes, fixes, and technical notes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Deep, hands-on experience with Shopify (Shopify Plus strongly preferred), including theme architecture and the Shopify admin.

  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Shopify Liquid, and SQL.

  • Experience using GitHub for version control, branching, pull requests, and code review.

  • Proficient use of AI development tools (coding assistants and agents) to accelerate development, code review, and documentation.

  • Experience managing external developers, contractors, or agency teams, including scoping work, setting priorities, and reviewing deliverables.

  • Ability to write clear technical requirements, briefs, and tickets that developers can execute from.

  • Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and developers across different storefronts and regions.

  • Understanding of eCommerce UX best practices and web merchandising.

  • High attention to detail for QA and code review.

  • Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams and external agencies.

Preferred

  • Experience working with integrations, APIs, or automation tools, including iPaaS/middleware platforms (Celigo preferred).

  • Experience with NetSuite or other ERP systems.

  • Familiarity with Celigo Integration Apps or custom flow mapping.

  • Experience supporting international storefronts and multi-market setups.

  • Basic understanding of SEO, schema, and structured product data.

  • Experience building or updating Shopify sections, templates, or components.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with simple automation scripts or theme extensions.

  • Solid sense of humor and comfort working at Pit Viper's energy level.

Questions you can expect in the interview

Drawn from this posting. None of them repeat on another job.

1.Most of your time would go to planning, writing requirements and managing external developers rather than coding. How do you write requirements that stop a contractor from building the wrong thing?
2.You would review code in GitHub before anything is merged or deployed. What do you look for in a Liquid or theme pull request, and what do you let through?
3.You would oversee Celigo flows between Shopify and NetSuite and triage failed flows and mapping errors. Tell us how you prioritise when several integrations fail at once.
4.The storefronts serve the U.S., Canada and Australia. What changes in a theme and in its testing when one codebase serves three markets?
5.You would step in on urgent fixes when it is faster than tasking them out. How do you decide between fixing it yourself and delegating, and how do you avoid becoming the bottleneck?
