Guidelines for crafting effective titles and descriptions for your project

Title guidelines:

  1. Skip mentioning the incentive—participants will see it in a separate section when they view your project.

  2. Don’t name your app in the title. Instead, focus on the topic you’re researching to spark curiosity.

  3. If you’re looking for users of a specific app, theme, or tool, it’s fine to mention its name in the title.

Check out great title and description examples at the end of this article.

Description guidelines:

  1. Avoid describing what you’re building or advertising your app in this description - instead describe the theme or the problem you’re investigating. This will ensure unbiased feedback and insights from participants.

  2. Let participants know what kinds of questions they'll be asked or actions they'll need to take during the 1-on-1 interview.

  3. If your project is a survey, let participants know how many questions they'll be answering in your form. Learn more about surveys.

  4. If your project is a preference test, let them know what they’ll be choosing between. Learn more about preference tests.

Follow the structure below for the best project description.

Use this structure to create an effective project description:

  1. Introduce yourself

Briefly explain who you are or the team conducting the research. Focus on your role and purpose, not your product or service. Avoid including promotional language or URLs.

  1. Define your target audience

Clearly state the type of participants you’re looking for using professional or business characteristics. For example, specify their roles, industries, or experience levels.

  1. Outline your main research objective

Be specific about what you’re trying to learn, validate, or gain feedback on. Keep the focus clear and concise.

  1. Include secondary objectives

List additional goals, such as exploring related topics or understanding specific pain points. This provides context for participants.

  1. Set participant expectations

Let participants know what to expect during the interview, such as the topics you’ll cover or the structure of the session. This helps them prepare and ensures alignment.

  1. Add extra details to attract applicants

Highlight why their input is valuable or how it might benefit their industry. Make your project engaging and relevant to encourage participation.

Keep it concise, clear, and professional to maximize interest and ensure you get high-quality participants!
